From Our Home to Yours ❤️
“Mom, Mom, hear me out, hear me out!”
Those were the words that started it all.
It was a September afternoon, and I was in our kitchen preparing dinner. I had oranges dehydrating in the oven because I'd found them on sale and didn't want them to go to waste. And, as usual, I had a simmer pot going on the stove.
With children who have allergies, scented candles aren't always an option in our home. Simmer pots had become part of our everyday routine. I especially loved bringing a pot to a gentle boil for just 3–5 minutes after cooking dinner, allowing the beautiful aromas of fruits and spices to travel throughout our home and help freshen the air from lingering cooking smells.
Little did I know that this simple routine would become something so much more.
That afternoon, my teenage son came home from school. He was in Grade 10, taking business class, and needed to start a business for his final project.
And there I was, in the middle of making dinner, when he came into the kitchen with those unforgettable words:
“Mom, Mom, hear me out, hear me out!”
He had an idea. And that idea would become Hand & Home Co.
One Bag at a Time
We started small. Really small.
My son sold our first bags at our neighbourhood condominium garage sale, while I shared them in our local Facebook neighbourhood group.
And people bought them!
With those first sales, we invested in a dehydrator and a label maker. Instead of taking money out of the business, we kept putting it back in, little by little.
We experimented with recipes together, foraged for botanicals together, and spent countless hours preparing ingredients and filling bags right in our dining room.
Every new recipe, every sale, and every little improvement was something we were learning and building together.
There were no fancy production facilities or big investments. Just a mom, her son, a dining room table, and an idea we believed in.
From Our Dining Room to Our Workshop
Fast-forward to today, and that little business project has grown into something we never could have imagined when we packed those first bags.
Our dining room production days have turned into a dedicated workshop, complete with shelves upon shelves of ingredients, supplies, and finished blends — and not one, but three dehydrators!
What started with a few bags has grown into seasonal collections, thoughtfully developed recipes, and handcrafted simmer potpourri that we now get to share with homes beyond our own.
And while our workspace may have grown, the heart behind Hand & Home Co. hasn't changed.
We still believe in making things with care, using real fruits, fragrant spices, herbs, and botanicals, and creating comforting aromas that turn ordinary moments into something special.
Places, Moments & Memories
To us, Hand & Home Co. has always been about more than making a home smell wonderful.
It's about the places we love, the moments we cherish, and the memories we create along the way.
The warmth of coming home on a chilly afternoon. The familiar scents of Christmas morning. The comfort of a cozy kitchen filled with family, laughter, and love.
Every blend is thoughtfully created with those little moments in mind.
And perhaps my favourite part of this whole journey is knowing that something my son imagined for a school project became something we brought to life together.
